SAFETY TALKS
45 minutes – All Students
During the colder winter months SSC lifeguards attend schools for an interactive surf safety talk which involves a lifeguard coming to your school.
The talk is accompanied by a DVD and PowerPoint presentation and covers all safety information needed to stay safe while visiting the beach.
The talk is free to all Sutherland Shire schools.
Topics covered include:
- Safe and Unsafe swimming areas
- Beach setup
- Dangers including rocks, rips and marine stingers
- Wave formation and wave types
- Lifeguard and Lifesaver identification
Instructors:
All instructors are lifeguards employed by Sutherland Shire Council who have had child protection screening and have extensive
knowledge of surf safety. They have a minimum of Bronze medallion and advanced resuscitation.
Qualifications as well as having passed physical testing protocols.
Resources:
The resources used include a Surf Education manual, foam surfboards and resuscitation manikins supplied by council.
